Motorcycle accidents

Yesterday, I left the office at around 5:00 PM.  From Makati, I took the Kalayaan Avenue then to C5 on my way home to Novaliches.  I am taking this route to avoid the EDSA traffic; albeit, it is longer by 3 - 4 kilometers.  From Kalayaan Avenue, I turned left to C5 but was confronted by a heavy traffic atop the bridge.  From the tail end, we were slowly moving.  Maybe, there was stalled vehicle or an accident ahead that caused this heavy traffic.  Indeed, there was accident.  After the bridge, I saw an ambulance and two downed motorcyles.  A man, apparently one of the motorcyclist, with a neck brace was being put on a stretcher.

I’ve been driving for more than two decades; and I’ve seen so many motorcycles accidents.  Most motorcycle accidents happened because most motorcyclists were driving like Evel Knievel, especially the delivery motorcyclists.  They speed, weave, swerve, cut lanes, and, if they could, fly. They don’t realize that, practically, they have no protection and very much vulnerable.  Being a two-wheeled vehicle, motorcycles are most susceptible to accidents and their drivers and riders are likely to sustain serious, if not fatal, injuries.  And, there are drivers and riders who are not wearing safety gears, particulary the helmet.

I think the government should do something about this problem and fast.  We don’t want to see motorcylists and its riders maimed, dismembered, disabled, or died just because of irresponsible driving. The number of motorcylists is growing everyday.  And  the time may come that the number of motorcycles would exceed the number of four and more wheeled vehicles in this country.

Meantime, I encourage the motorcyclist to be more careful and responsible in their driving.
