I’m using diesel for my 2008 Kia Carens LX CRDi A/T. Hence, I’m using the price of the diesel in the comparison.
In Fairview and Novaliches areas on the northern outskirts of Quezon City, the current diesel prices in almost all gasoline stations, whether the “big three” or the “small players”, are P28.50 only. And, I found one station of Nation along Regalado Avenue that sells it at P28.30 (US$ 0.61) only. I also saw two stations along Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview with diesel prices of P27.20. I’m not sure though whether they are regular or bio-diesel.
I understand the “small players” were the first to drop their prices and the “big three”, has no other recourse, but followed suit. Outside of these areas, the diesel prices are about P4.00 higher or as high as P32.98.
On our road trip to Bicol last week, I observed the diesel prices along the way (Batangas, Laguna, & Quezon provinces) are above P30. In Bicol, there are stations that sell at below P30.00. In Naga City, it’s P29.50; and, in Legaspi City, P29.30. I saw one station with a price of P29.00 and another one that boast “cheaper than Manila” at P28.87.
Everytime I gas up, I go to any Shell station in Novaliches or Fairview area. And, if I use my Shell-Citibank, I will get a 5% rebate. Hence, I only spend P27.075 for every liter of diesel.
Thanks for the tips. It’s interesting to know that prices of diesel are cheaper in Bicol than in Ilocos. We went on a road trip to Pagudpud after Christmas, but prices of diesel were more expensive the farther one is from Manila.
E.g. Tarlac was P33.60 per liter
Rosario, La Union P33.55 per liter
San Fernando, La Union P33.94 per liter
Vigan, Ilocos Sur over P34 per liter
San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte P34.33 per liter
Laoag, Ilocos Norte P34.85 per liter
Bangui, Ilocos Norte almost P36 per liter!
Maybe a Bicol roadtrip would be a more interesting proposition, fuel-wise
@NT - I also heard in the news that fuel prices in Nueva Ecija are cheaper too than in Manila (outside of Fairview/Novaliches).
Posted by autom at January 6, 2009, 7:59 amYes, I believe the prices in Nueva Ecija (Cabanatuan City, Gapan) are similar to that of Fairview (about P28.30-P29). Parts of the Bicol region (Camarines Sur, Naga) have similar prices as well.
Posted by NT at January 10, 2009, 12:06 pmThe diesel being sold at P27.20 were bio-diesel.
