Our Kia Carens is still young at a year and two months old; but, I’d been hearing annoying noises (kalampag) underneath on rough roads. They became untolerable; so, I brought it to Kia Pasig this morning for check-up and necessary repairs. I also complained that the alarm sound is no longer working. I was informed, however, that the repairer of the alarm from its dealer, Winterpine, would be arriving in the afternoon.
Our car was road tested and the repairs of the kalampag were completed by about 11:30 AM. The kalampag repairs are still within the warranty; so, I didn’t shell out a single cent. I couldn’t wait for the Winterpine people; and I drove away. I’d just have the alarm repaired when I return for my 20,000 PMS.
How’s the car? The annoying noises are gone. I was told that the bushings are worn already and have been replaced. Nice job, so far.

Hence, the new prices of fuel in Fairview and Novaliches areas by tomorrow would be:
The difference between diesel and unleaded is now P6.05.
I just got home from my Valencia City trip. On my way from the NAIA Centennial terminal to our home, I again checked the fuel prices in the gasoline stations and thought they have changed. Then, I learned that there were indeed movement in the prices. The price of the diesel is reduced by P0.50 while the petrol prices increased by P0.50. Here are the current prices in Novaliches and Fairview areas:
This morning, I arrived Cagayan De Oro City. Thence, I proceeded to Valencia City. On my way to Valencia City, I checked the price boards of the gasoline stations.
Most gasoline stations have the following prices:
In Cagayan De Oro City
In Malaybalay City
I also checked the prices in Valencia City but I lost my note.
I heard in the news yesterday about the roll back of fuel prices by 50 centavos to take effect at 6:00 PM yesterday for Eastern Petroleum and at midnight for the big three.
This morning, on my way to work, I noticed that Shell and Petron have slashed their prices by P0.50. Chevron prices remain the same. On my way home, I noticed Chevron has also slashed its price.
Current fuel prices in Novaliches and Fairview areas:
The new fuel prices of the “Big Three” (Petron, Chevron, and Shell) in the Novaliches & Fairview areas was the result of their price rollback, which was implemented 12:01 AM yesterday, January 13, 2009. Fuel prices of their stations in other areas in the metropolis have also been reduced by P0.50.
I also noticed that some small players followed suit.
Another rollback may be expected later this week.
I just got home from the National Kidney & Transplant Institute, where my wifey is confined.
On my way home, I noticed that the fuel prices in the Big Three stations in Novaliches and Fairview areas have reduced by P0.50 accross the board. These stations are Shell and Caltex along Regalado Avenue and Petron along Zabarte Avenue. Here are the new fuel prices:
This is great news to the motorist and passers-by of Novaliches and Fairview areas.
When I go back to the hospital tomorrow morning, I’ll check the fuel prices of other gas stations.
Today, I noticed the reduction in the prices of regular and bio-diesel in most gasoline stations in Novaliches & Fairview areas. The prices of petrol products, however, remain the same.
The price of the regular diesel is now P27.20 from P28.50 (P1.30 reduction) at the stations of Shell, Petron, Caltex, Total, Nation, and UniOil. The bio-diesel is now at P26.95 from P27.20 (P0.25 reduction) at the stations of Flying V and Uno. These stations are located along Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview, Regalado Avenue, and Zabarte Avenue in Kaligayahan, Novaliches.
The gasoline stations outside of these areas have not reduced their prices.
I’m going to Dagupan City tomorrow morning for a day trip. And, I’m driving my Kia Carens.
Dagupan City is an independent component city of the province of Pangasinan, on the western part of the Philippine island of Luzon. Some thought that it’s the provincial capital; but, it’s the Municipality of Lingayen. Dagupan City is known as the bangus (milkfish) capital of the country. Actually, our purpose of going there is to look for bangus suppliers or wholesalers.
From Metro Manila, there are three ways going to Dagupan. The first, which is the main / bus route, is via Urdaneta City. The other ways are via Camiling, Tarlac - Bugallon and Camiling, Tarlac - Bayambang - Malasiqui. I’m taking the latter as this is the shorter, less traveled, and newly paved route.
The distance between Metro Manila and Dagupan City is about 200 kilometers or about two-hour travel by land.
Here’s the roadmap to Dagupan City.

I’m using diesel for my 2008 Kia Carens LX CRDi A/T. Hence, I’m using the price of the diesel in the comparison.
In Fairview and Novaliches areas on the northern outskirts of Quezon City, the current diesel prices in almost all gasoline stations, whether the “big three” or the “small players”, are P28.50 only. And, I found one station of Nation along Regalado Avenue that sells it at P28.30 (US$ 0.61) only. I also saw two stations along Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview with diesel prices of P27.20. I’m not sure though whether they are regular or bio-diesel.
I understand the “small players” were the first to drop their prices and the “big three”, has no other recourse, but followed suit. Outside of these areas, the diesel prices are about P4.00 higher or as high as P32.98.
On our road trip to Bicol last week, I observed the diesel prices along the way (Batangas, Laguna, & Quezon provinces) are above P30. In Bicol, there are stations that sell at below P30.00. In Naga City, it’s P29.50; and, in Legaspi City, P29.30. I saw one station with a price of P29.00 and another one that boast “cheaper than Manila” at P28.87.
Everytime I gas up, I go to any Shell station in Novaliches or Fairview area. And, if I use my Shell-Citibank, I will get a 5% rebate. Hence, I only spend P27.075 for every liter of diesel.
