Carens goes to Legaspi City

At about 8:00 AM of December 27, 2008, we left Manila for Legaspi City using our Kia Carens LX A/T CRDi.  We stopped at Lopez, Quezon, which is almost halfway to our destination, and spent the night there.

The following morning, we proceeded to Naga City and attended a mass at the Penafrancia Basilica thence to Legaspi City.

After touring the city, our next destination was the Camarines Watersports Complex (CWC) in Pili, Camarines Sur. The place is fully booked until the end of the long holiday.

Early morning of the following day, we headed back home with side trip to Tayabas, Quezon (for our lunch) and Lucban, Quezon.  We arrived home at about 10:00 PM of December 30, 2008

For the four-day trip, we’ve traveled about 1,101 kilometers with an avereage fuel consumption of 11.5 km/li. This is the longest and farthest our Kia Carens has traveled.

No number coding during the 8-day long holidays

There had been conflicting reports about the number coding scheme in Metro Manila during the 8-day long holidays.

I understand this traffic scheme is not in effect during Saturdays, Sundays, and non-working holidays (regular or special).  Unless there’s declaration otherwise, there’s no number coding on this period.

Last night, I heard in the radio news that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will temporarily suspend the number coding from December 25, 2008 to January 1, 2009 because the number of vehicles traversing the metropolis during the holiday will decrease significantly as people will go home to their provinces.

December 25, December 30, and January 1 are regular holidays;  December 26, 29, and 31 are declared special non-working holidays; while, December 27 and 28 are Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Why would MMDA temporarily suspend the scheme when it is not in effect during this period?  It may implement it but not suspend.

Our latest Kia Carens fuel consumption

When was the last time I computed our Kia Carens fuel consumptions?  Ah, yes.  It was in July 2008 or about five months ago. The fuel consumptions then were:

• Highway - 10.92 kms./li. (339 km. trip to Talavera, N.E.)
• City = 9.762 kms./li

Last week, I thought of computing my fuel consumption again; and, I refilled to automatic full tank. This morning, my fuel gauge needle’s below the 1/4 mark; and, again, I gassed up.

The fuel consumption for city driving is:

• Distance run: 338.4 kilometers
• Fuel refilled: 38.934 liters
• Consumption: 8.69 km/li.

At P31 per liter of diesel, I’m spending P3.56 per kilometer.  Or, my daily fuel expenses for 60 kilometers is P214.00.

Huli Ka! (You’re caught!)

I hate traffic violators. You can see them on the road every minute of the day.

While driving, I like to capture them in the act in my camera and blog about them. But,for safety reasons, I couldn’t. When there’s a safe chance, I was able to capture some violations. I’m just keeping my camera ready.

I’m glad I found this blog, HULI KA! - “a blog dedicated to improving the traffic situation in Metro Manila, by exposing traffic violators and keeping everyone informed about regulations and the latest news.”  This blog has been online since 2005 and has captured and posted so many traffic violations - from no plates, smoke belching, illegal counterflows, no left/U turns to abuses of authorities,

Traffic violators, beware! You’d be caught in the act sooner or later and your pictures & violations posted in this blog.

I hope the PNP Traffic Management Group, the MMDA and the Metro Manila Local Government Units would always check this blog.

Our Kia Carens’ 15,000 km. PMS

Our Kia Carens is over a year now (a year and 19 days old to be exact) and has run more than 15,000 kilometers already.

This morning, I brought it to Kia Service Center for the required periodic maintenance service (PMS). And, I spent the total of P3,553.76, broken down:

6 li. Engine Oil	P1,176.00
Oil Filter	525.00
Cotton Rags	12.00
Labor	1,460.00
VAT	380.76
TOTAL	P 3,553.76

I noticed, however, that the prices of the following have increased from my last PMS about 4 months ago:

• Engine Oil - from P150 to P196/liter or by P46/liter or 31%
• Labor - from P1,300 to P1,460 or by P160 or 12%.

The total increase is P488 or 16%.  That’s about the cost of a case of beer.

Congratulations, Ma’am Anna
